Her Voice is a series of workshops and community sessions created to empower, educate, and open up new opportunities for African and minoritised women across the North East of England. It is a space rooted in care, creativity, and collective growth, where women will be supported to build confidence, explore identity, and celebrate the richness of their cultures and lived experiences.

Through Her Voice, participants are invited to reflect on who they are, where they come from, and how their voices already shape their families, workplaces, and communities. The programme centres women not as outsiders, but as change makers, offering practical tools to help them challenge stereotypes, amplify their stories, and step into new forms of leadership on their own terms.

The project will bring together practical learning, creativity, and peer connection.

What We Will Offer

In Leadership in Action sessions, participants explore leadership beyond job titles or formal roles. Women are supported to recognise the ways they already lead in everyday life, whether through caregiving, community organising, or navigating work and systems not designed with them in mind. These sessions focus on building confidence, influence, and self-belief, helping participants see leadership as something they already embody.

Storytelling for Change workshops invite women to reclaim their narratives through personal storytelling and creative writing. Participants might explore stories of migration, motherhood, resilience, identity, or belonging, sharing their experiences in a supportive and affirming environment. These sessions help build confidence in speaking up, whether in community spaces, professional settings, or creative platforms, while also shaping new conversations about race, womanhood, and identity.

Personal Development and Wellbeing sessions create space to reflect on the internal and external barriers many women face, such as imposter syndrome, cultural expectations, and burnout. Through guided reflection, group discussion, and peer learning, participants explore practical tools for setting boundaries, managing stress, and setting meaningful goals for their futures.

Who is this for?

This project is for African and marginalised women. These sessions are as much about rest and care as they are about growth, helping women build supportive networks that last beyond the programme.

Alongside these core sessions, Her Voice includes peer learning and networking circles that encourage connection, shared learning, and mutual support. Creative sessions exploring heritage, identity, and belonging are woven throughout the programme, ensuring that culture and lived experience remain at the heart of the work.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Her Voice will be delivered across the North East of England, including Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, and Blyth.

To take part in Her Voice, women are invited to register their interest. This is not a commitment to attend every session, but a way to let us know you would like to hear more. Once registered, a member of the Teakisi team will get in touch with further details about session dates and locations.
