Six sessions. Six themes. Plenty of stories to share.
Stories That Connect is a six-session intergenerational programme, bringing adults from different cultures and life experiences together in a relaxed and welcoming space
Each session will have its own theme, with plenty of opportunities to share memories, experiences, traditions and stories.
September – Culture
What makes us who we are? We’ll explore traditions, customs, language and the things we carry with us from the places and communities that have shaped us.
October – Family
Family can mean many different things. We’ll share stories about the people, relationships and experiences that have shaped our lives.
November – Travel
Places we’ve been, places we’d love to visit and the journeys that have stayed with us. Expect stories, memories and perhaps a few travel tales.
December – Food
Food brings people together. We’ll talk about favourite dishes, recipes, food memories and the role food plays in our families and cultures.
February – Music
Songs can hold memories, tell stories and bring people together. We’ll explore the music we love and the memories attached to it.
March – Celebration
We’ll finish by celebrating the connections made throughout the programme, sharing stories and reflecting on what we’ve discovered about one another.
What to expect
Sessions will include a mixture of:
- Storytelling and shared conversation
- Books and readings
- Short film clips
- Creative activities
- Conversation prompts
- Opportunities to share memories and experiences
- Tea, coffee and refreshment
You don’t need to be a confident storyteller or someone who normally joins community activities. You can share as much or as little as you like. The important thing is having a space where people can come together, listen to one another and feel part of something.

Why Stories That Connect?
Blyth is home to people with many different backgrounds, experiences and generations, yet it can be easy for people to feel isolated or disconnected from those around them.
Stories That Connect creates a simple opportunity to change that.
By bringing people together regularly, we hope to build friendships, improve wellbeing and give people greater confidence to take part in community life. It will also create opportunities for people to volunteer, contribute their own skills and help shape future activities at Tales Without Borders.
The programme builds on what already makes Tales Without Borders special — a multicultural library, creative space and a growing network of people who enjoy coming together.
At its heart, this is about feeling connected, being heard and knowing that your story matters.
