Big Brother Africa is the name, The Chase is the game.

On Sunday, 26th May, after what was described as an electrifying start to the evening, the new Big Brother Africa season opened officially with the dashing IK as host, the event was graced with performances from South Africa’s Mafikizolo and Mavin Music maestros, Don Jazzy and Wande Coal, alongside stand up comedian Churchill from Kenya and South African comedienne Tumi Morake.

As the evening progressed, 28 of Africa’s sexiest singletons descended onto the Big Brother Live Show stage with zeal before making their way into the Rubies and Diamonds Houses. As is custom to the Big Brother Africa show, Season 8 will be full of surprises.

The first twist of the evening was for the 14 female house mates; the ladies were given a chance to determine which of the two Houses they would be moving into according to the male house mate that they picked. The catch was that they could not see the guys’ faces they had to pick the smile that they like the most out of the smiles on the 14 male Househmates that were displayed on
screen on stage. After each female house mate had picked the smile that she was most drawn to, the guy who the smile belongs to came out onto the stage
carrying a yellow or red cloth that signified whether they would be headed to the ‘Rubies’ or ‘Diamonds’ House. Although the house mates walked into the houses as pairs they will be competing as individuals and will spend the 91 days vying for each other’s affections for the grand prize of USD 300,000.

Here is how the Housemates have been
divided:

Rubies House:
Pokello, Zimbabwe
LK4, Uganda
Selly, Ghana
Bassey, Sierra Leone
Beverly, Nigeria
Sulu, Zambia
Cleo, Zambia
Oneal, Botswana
Maria, Namibia
Melvin, Nigeria
Natasha, Malawi
Bigeusas, Angola
Koketso, South Africa
Hakeem, Zimbabwe

Diamonds House:
Dellish, Namibi
Angelo, South Africa
Fatima, Malawi
Nando, Tanzania
Huddah, Kenya
Bimp, Ethiopia
Motamma, Botswana
Neyll, Angola
Feza, Tanzania
Elikem, Ghana
Betty, Ethiopia
Bolt, Sierra Leone
Annabel, Kenya
Denzel, Uganda

Two hours into the house, Big Brother did not waste any time to give the house mates their first task which involved building a fire surrounded by 5 chairs and 5 crowns which were to be guarded by the house mates until the fire burned out. During this all nighter, the house mates got to know each other better, as Big Brother dropped another twist into the game; surprise nominations on the first day.

The most nominations in the Diamonds house went to Uganda’s Denzel, Kenya’s Huddah and Ghana’s Elikem. However, their current Head of House, Feza from Tanzania, had the power to save and swap, saving Elikem and replacing him with the soft spoken Betty. In the Rubies House, the house mates up for eviction are Malawi’s Natasha and Ghana’s Selly, after their head Head of House mates, Nigerian Beverly, swapped the fun loving Sierra Leonian Bassey with Natasha.

With the thought of the looming eviction, the house mates let loose with a few bottles of bubbly in the jacuzzi cracking jokes and singing songs led by the Zambian rapper and femcee Cleo, who took the chance to demonstrate her rap skills while spitting a couple of popular Nicki Minaj songs.

Africa, which two house mates shall leave the Big Brother fraternity this Sunday?
