When the song, YOLO, was released, it became a source of inspiration for many to live their lives as they saw fit and also to not take life so seriously, because we only live once.

When the buzz was strong over the song, I really just knew the acronym so as not to sound out of place in discussions among peers.

Not until recently, did it occur to me that indeed, we only live once and we should enjoy the one we have.

As though the universe was in agreement, I read and watched different works pointing to the fact that one needs to take life less seriously.

Fortunately for me, I have successfully not had a break in my education. I was practically always busy with school.

I got admission into the secondary school of my choice immediately after I finished primary school and was quickly enrolled into university the same year I finished secondary school.

After university, I went for one year compulsory service and then I got admission for my masters.

Now in all of these, I was always thinking of the next step while I was in one, that I didn’t take the time to enjoy the process.

For some reason, I have always been too cautious to actually let loose and have fun.

Time waits for no one, I have always known that.  However, there is a point in person’s life when some certain things come alive for us.

While it is indeed important to get busy and get working, it is also equally important to have fun.

The truth is that at the end of the day, it is not the degrees, the certifications, the awards or the promotions that will matter (even though they are important), but it is the memory we share with loved ones.

I don’t know about you, but I am done saying no to every outing or hang-out my friends plan.

I will go on a date to have some fun (after all dating does not mean getting married).

I will try to make more solo plans, treat myself and prioritize family time.

At the end of the day, the times spent with people we care about are all have.

When we are old and frail, it is the memories that will keep us going.

Old people do not regret the work as much as they regret the missed time with family.

There is a time to work and a time to play. We need to make maximum use of the time to play. It is really refreshing.
